The House

Contrapposto started in 2023 as a West Hollywood aesthetics practice founded by Nick Axelrod-Welk, an Into the Gloss alum who also co-founded Nécessaire, and his husband Casey. Its first three extraits arrived in September, and Lubanite was composed by Shyamala Maisondieu of Givaudan.

The Scent

Elemi opens on a resinous citrus edge with davana and pink peppercorn. The heart is built around choya nakh, a rare Indian attar distilled from roasted seashells that smells of charred amber and sea salt, with saffron, muguet and rose petals around it. Akigalawood, ambergris and Virginia cedar sit underneath, and Somali olibanum is what lingers longest on skin.

The Object

Los Angeles artist Brian Roettinger designed the flacon, a sculpted oval of amber glass under a brushed silver cap, along with the 400-page art book each bottle ships inside.

Price

Lubanite comes in 50ml for $350 from Contrapposto and Violet Grey, alongside its siblings Melting Flowers and Musc Pétille.
