A Place to Sit

Emeco has been building aluminum furniture in Hanover, Pennsylvania since 1944, with Philippe Starck, Jasper Morrison and Ettore Sottsass among its collaborators. In 2021 it teamed with Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa on the Za stool, named for the Japanese word for a place to sit. ZaZa takes that same idea and draws it out long enough for company.

Shaped by the Body

Fukasawa set the seat at a slightly obtuse angle so the sit bones stay put, and that small tilt gives the top its gentle curve. Each bench is formed from 80 percent recycled aluminum and finished by hand in Emeco's signature brushed, clear-anodized surface, and a lifetime warranty covers it in an entryway or out in the garden.

Three Lengths

ZaZa comes 15, 48 or 72 inches wide, each one 18.5 inches tall and 18.25 inches deep, and even the longest weighs just 17 pounds. Prices run from $1,090 for the stool-sized 15 inch to $2,955 for the 72, with powder coat colors available on request and a six to eight week lead time.
