Act V

Apparatus calls its collections acts, and the New York studio's fifth is titled Afsaneh, the Persian word for fable and the name of co-founder Gabriel Hendifar's mother. It pulls from Persian mythology, the choreography of Martha Graham and the cycle of seed, flower and scent, and it arrives with lighting, tables, smoking vessels and an incense of damask rose, frankincense and oud.

The Storyteller

Rahvi is the collection's storyteller. Its frame is water-formed brass that coils around itself in one slow, liquid line, cradling cast glass orbs that glow with warm, dimmable light. Seven semi-precious amulets ride along the curve, offered in honey agate, red jasper and tiger's eye or in lapis lazuli, aventurine and black onyx.

Made to Order

The lamp comes in a short version at 13.5 inches and a tall one at just over 28, finished in waxed aged brass, blackened brass or oil-rubbed bronze, with lacquered tarnished silver as an option. Each one is built to order in roughly 16 to 18 weeks, with pricing handled directly by the studio.
